A Recipe Carried
from the Motor City

The name says it all. 313 is Detroit's area code — the heartbeat of a city where square, thick-crusted, cheese-edged pizza was born.

Brothers Brandon and Zane Hunt grew up in Detroit, where pizza wasn't round, it was rectangular. Where the crust was thick and airy, baked in well-oiled blue steel pans until the cheese caramelized at the edges into a crispy, golden crust. It was the pizza of family Sundays, of celebrations, of cold nights warmed from the inside out.

When they moved to Austin, Texas, they brought that recipe with them — and in 2012, they started serving their beloved hometown pie out of a trailer at the Violet Crown Social Club. Austin had never seen anything quite like it.

Today, Via 313 has grown to multiple brick-and-mortar locations across Austin, but the recipe and the spirit haven't changed one bit. Every pizza is still made by hand, with the same dough, the same cheese blend, and the same love that Brandon and Zane carry from Detroit.

The Via 313 Story Over the Years

From a humble trailer to multiple Austin locations — here's how we got here.

2012

The Trailer Begins

Brandon and Zane Hunt open their first pizza trailer at the Violet Crown Social Club in Austin. Lines wrap around the block on opening weekend.

2014

Second Trailer Location

Demand grows beyond one trailer. A second Via 313 trailer opens on South Lamar, bringing Detroit-style pizza to a new neighborhood audience.

2016

First Brick-and-Mortar

Via 313 opens its first permanent restaurant on Burnet Road, complete with a full dining room and expanded menu. The community celebrates in true Austin fashion.

2018

Austin's Best Pizza Award

Via 313 is named Austin's Best Pizza by the Austin Chronicle — a recognition that puts Detroit-style firmly on the Austin culinary map.

2020

Adapting Through Challenges

During the pandemic, Via 313 pivots to expanded takeout and delivery services, keeping Austin fed and their team employed throughout the most challenging period in restaurant history.

2022

Multi-Location Expansion

Via 313 grows to six Austin locations, including their flagship on Menchaca Road. Each spot maintains the same handmade quality that started it all.

Still Making it the Right Way

Brandon Hunt

Co-Founder & CEO

Detroit native and the visionary behind Via 313. Brandon brought his hometown's beloved square pizza to Austin and never looked back. He oversees operations and keeps the original recipe sacred.

Zane Hunt

Co-Founder & Culinary Head

Brandon's brother and the culinary genius of the operation. Zane perfected the dough fermentation process and oversees every kitchen across all Via 313 locations.

Maria Reyes

Head Dough Specialist

Maria joined Via 313 in 2016 and quickly became the guardian of the dough. Her deep understanding of fermentation and flour ratios ensures consistent perfection at every location.

James Caldwell

General Manager

James ensures every guest who walks through our doors leaves happy. With 15 years in hospitality, he leads front-of-house operations with warmth, precision, and an infectious love for pizza.
